This week's leaderboard sees Owls and Robins taking joint first place, pushing Kingfishers into third by a whisker! Well done everyone - it's still really close. Make sure you do your five reads this week!

This week saw the return of Barb, and we got lots of news from the owls we posted last week! 

Focused Frederick has had a wonderful adventure in Lincoln. He enjoyed a glorious day out in the city centre looking at the cathedral and the castle in the sunshine. He visited the museum of Lincolnshire and saw their famous scarecrow and lots of farm machinery. The harvest has largely been brought in, so he didn't get to see a combine harvester in action, but he did find some big ones in the museum. He also found a tank - there are lots of RAF and army bases in Lincolnshire. He is now on the way home. 

Pastel Sandra reported back from Harrogate. She did get rained on, but found beautiful rolling hills, drystone walls and visited the Victorian pump house because Harrogate was originally a Victorian spa town. She should be winging her way home this week, too. 

Beats has made it to a primary school in Sunderland and we eagerly await his report. 

Natalie is in Rhyl, just outside the Snowdonia National Park - also at a primary school with a very excited teacher! 

Speckle has arrived in the little village of Histon, near Cambridge. 

Spike and Bob are expected back from Liverpool and Manchester early next week. 

Best of all, our wonderful PTA have presented Mrs E with some more second class stamps so the next flight is being prepared for next week. Where will they all end up next? 

In Geography this week, Owl Class looked at counties. Some of the class will have worn their County Crowns home - we learned what sorts of things different counties are famous for and - of course - addressed some envelopes!

AND THE WINNER IS......

The first reading scores of the year are in! Kingfishers take the lead this week, followed narrowly by Owls in second place and Robins in third. To keep things interesting and celebrate the achievements of all classes, we're having an Olympic medal table this year with…

The big news this week is that we seem to have temporarily lost Lorraine to the big city lifestyle! Having had her photograph taken at the Shard, Lorraine then managed to get onto the pitch at Twickenham for a photo op, and then snuck into a backpack for a brief trip to the Seven Sisters on the south coast before travelling back to London. She has tickets for a West End show next week so is remaining in London for now. 

We also heard back from Pedro, who made it all the way to Orkney - more than seven hundred miles each way. He had to travel on a little aeroplane with the rest of the post, and he saw a Stone Age circle more than 4500 years old and a beautiful rainbow while he was there. He is on his way home. 

Poppy and Sir Owlington arrived back in the classroom, from Birmingham and Ashford, to shrieks of excitement. We looked at the postmarks and guessed correctly which owls were in the envelopes!

Barb is still enjoying Worthing.

Poe reported back from Glasgow. He had his picture taken outside the Gallery Of Modern Art, where there is a statue of the Duke of Wellington. He has a traffic cone hat, but Poe didn't put it there; it's been there for more than forty years and every time the police or council remove it, somebody puts it back. 

Pastel Sandra, Dolly, Speckle, Focused Frederick, Natalie and Beats have all departed on their first mission. This week we are headed for Cambridge, Harrogate, Nottingham, Sunderland, Snowdonia and Lincoln. (If you're an owl foster family reading the blog to find out which one you're getting, it's still a secret - these are in no particular order!) 

Owl Class did some more amazing mapping skills this week, looking at some of the rivers in our major cities. We hope that Poe spotted the River Clyde in Glasgow and that Spike might take a ferry across the River Mersey in Liverpool. (We expect Lorraine has already been for a cruise on the Thames. She is that kind of owl.)

This term, Owl Class are doing a Geography topic on the United Kingdom. We are sending these little owls off in envelopes to destinations all over England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, to take a photograph of the places they find before hopping back in the post to fly back…
