The scores are in!
Kingfisher Class is top of the tree this week, with Robins as runners-up - but there are only a few percent points in it so please keep up with your five reads. Every single one counts!
Ringfenced story time
The nights are starting to draw in! Snuggling up on the sofa with a good book is one of the nicest things you can possibly do on a chilly autumn evening. At Aldermaston, every class finishes every single day enjoying a story from one of the amazing authors on our "core reading spine" - the younger ones look at brilliant picture books with their teachers, while the older ones get the next chapter in a novel (we always try to finish on a cliffhanger!)
Keeping story time part of the end of our day matters enormously to us. Making it part of the end of your day is astonishingly powerful, too. It's free; it can take as little as ten minutes; everyone can join in; and children (and parents) quickly come to associate books with being warm, clean, safe, fed, comfortable and loved. We all lead such busy lives, but it's so worth protecting that little bit of peace and shared experience. (And, if that wasn't enough, there is evidence to suggest that stories play a big part in helping children sleep better!)
Have a lovely weekend.
