Mission Statement

“The Governors, through focused leadership and application of our strategy via the School Development Plan, help all pupils to achieve their academic, spiritual and personal potential and enjoy their primary school years in a safe, caring and fun environment”

What is the role of the Governing Body?

The role of the Governing Body is crucial for the effective leadership and management of the school. Governors are a group of volunteers who include parents, staff and members of the local community who complement the professional leadership of the headteacher and staff by bringing a range of skill-sets to support school improvement.

The Department for Education (DfE) states that governing bodies should have a strong focus on three core strategic functions:

  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  2. Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
