Day 3: Halfway Heroes! Rafts, Zip Wires, and Obstacles!
We've reached the halfway point of our incredible Year 6 residential, and what a day it's been! The energy levels are still sky-high, and the adventures just keep coming.
Building Our Own Adventures: Raft Building!
This morning, the challenge was clear: build a raft that could float! Teams worked together, tying ropes, securing barrels, and strategising like seasoned engineers. There were some creative designs, a few wobbly moments, and a whole lot of laughter screaming, the water is still a tad nippy! Seeing the children collaborating and problem-solving was fantastic, and the sense of accomplishment when their rafts hit the water was truly special. They completed multiple tasks: getting to and from the island, saving Walter (the yellow ball) and even some fabulous and balancing renditions of 'Head, shoulders, Knees and Jump!' whilst onboard their rafts.
Potato Power!
After all that hard work, we needed fuel, and got it! Lunch was another hearty affair, with generous helpings of potatoes in every form imaginable. It’s safe to say we were all well and truly carbo-loaded, ready for the afternoon's challenges.
Soaring High: The Lake Zip Wire!
The afternoon brought us to the lake for Lake Challenge, an adrenaline-pumping experience: the zip wire! Watching the children overcome their fears and soar across the water was incredible. Some were a little nervous, but everyone gave it their best shot, and the cheers of encouragement echoed across the lake. Mrs Jordan and Mr Gunn even enjoyed participating in this activity, peer pressure from the children definitely worked.
Conquering the Course: Obstacle Challenge!
Before dinner, we tackled the obstacle course. It was a test of agility, strength, and determination. From climbing walls to crawling through tunnels, the children pushed themselves to their limits. Muddy knees and beaming smiles were the order of the day! A few extra challenges, besides scaling the 'A - frame' and 'M - frame', the children navigated the tyres and the rope hangs to test their strength even further.
This evening: Testing the limits
To finish off the day, Group 1 enjoyed a very high tempo fencing session, learning the key moves and position of the Renaissance sport, originating from France. Group 2 took on the climbing wall for Abseiling this evening. Super support for all children throughout, with lots of children testing and pushing themselves.
Halfway and Happy!
We're halfway through our residential, and the memories we're making are priceless. The children are growing in confidence, teamwork, and resilience with every activity. We're looking forward to more adventures tomorrow!
