Abernant 2025 - Day 2

What a day 2 we have had - chilly mornings, colder water and a lot of orienteering!

What an action-packed second day it's been for our Year 6 adventurers! After a hearty breakfast, we were off for some serious fun on the lake.

Paddles up! The morning was all about mastering the art of canoeing and kayaking. Some of the children were naturals, gliding effortlessly across the water, while others embraced the challenge of staying upright (and dry-ish!). There were plenty of laughs, a lots of splashes, and a real sense of teamwork as we navigated the lake. It was fantastic to see everyone pushing their boundaries and trying something new. Many games were played, with even more splashes for good measure and forfeits. Each group had the opportunity to experience paddling a canoe and a kayak with a pit stop of hot squash to thaw out our hands half way through the session.

After a hefty lunch, bulked up with many a serving of potatoes, it was time to swap paddles for maps. Orienteering was on the agenda, and the Abernant grounds became our playground. Teams worked together, deciphering clues and navigating their way through the course. There were moments of confusion, moments of triumph, and a whole lot of running! It was a brilliant way to continue test the groups' problem-solving skills and to continue developing working as a team. For good measure, there were riddles and problem solving in a game of snakes and ladders with a twist!

In to the evening, both groups enjoyed a range of activities, Group 1 partaking in Axe Throwing and Abseiling and Group 2 enjoying the Low Ropes course and Rifle shooting.

By the time we returned to the centre, everyone was definitely ready bed and a well-deserved rest. The day was filled with adventure, laughter, and a real sense of accomplishment. We're so proud of how everyone has embraced the challenges and continued to support each other.
