Year 3 and Year 4 enjoyed a fantastic day at Ufton Court finding out more about life in Roman Britain.
They took part in some tough training as Roman army legionaries to develop their skills in using shields and spears. They learnt about the expectations of discipline and the importance of protecting their standard bearer.
Over in the Celt village, we found out more about how to survive the wet and cold winters in wattle and daub buildings. We spun wool, weaved wattle and created sparks to build a fire.
When all our work was done, we enjoyed some Roman games. The children were able to see clear links between how Roman's spent their leisure time and sports, board games and playground games which we still enjoy today.
Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who helped our children learn through experience as part of their current history topic.
