Collective Worship at Aldermaston C.E. Primary School

At Aldermaston C.E. Primary School, Collective Worship is an important part of our school day and provides time for our whole school community to come together, reflect and grow.

Our Collective Worship is rooted in our Christian vision:

“Life in all its fullness” – John 10:10

We want every child to flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. Through Collective Worship, pupils are encouraged to think deeply about themselves, others, the world around them and the part they can play within it.

Our School Values

Our three school values are woven throughout our Collective Worship:

Curiosity – encouraging us to ask questions, wonder, explore and learn more about ourselves, others and the world.

Compassion – encouraging us to show kindness, empathy, forgiveness and care for others.

Courage – encouraging us to make good choices, speak up for what is right, persevere when things are difficult and have confidence to try new things.

Windows, Mirrors and Doors

We use a Windows, Mirrors and Doors approach to support pupils' spiritual development. 

Windows give children opportunities to look out into the world, experience awe and wonder, and think about the lives and experiences of others.

Mirrors provide opportunities for children to reflect on their own thoughts, beliefs, feelings, actions and experiences.

Doors encourage children to consider how their learning and reflection might inspire them to act, make a difference or approach something differently.

This approach helps pupils understand that spirituality can involve asking big questions, making connections, reflecting deeply and responding to the world around them.

What Does Collective Worship Look Like?

Collective Worship takes place every day and may include whole-school worship, class or key-stage worship and our weekly Celebration Worship.

Worship may include:

  • a Bible story, parable or other meaningful story;

  • opportunities for discussion and reflection;

  • exploration of our Christian vision and values;

  • prayer and moments of stillness;

  • music and singing;

  • opportunities to consider important questions;

  • links to festivals or events in school, the wider community and the world;

  • recognition and celebration of pupils who demonstrate our school values.

Children are invited to participate in worship in a way that is respectful and appropriate to them. They are encouraged to contribute their ideas, ask questions and increasingly take an active role in planning and leading aspects of worship.

Prayer and Reflection

Prayer and reflection form an important part of our worship. Pupils are given opportunities to be still, reflect and consider their own responses to the themes explored.

Prayer is invitational. Children may choose to listen, reflect quietly or join in with shared prayers.

Celebrating Together

Our weekly Celebration Worship provides an opportunity to recognise the achievements and contributions of children across the school.

Alongside celebrating academic and personal achievements, we recognise children who demonstrate our values of Curiosity, Compassion and Courage in their everyday actions.

Through Collective Worship, we aim to create a welcoming and inclusive space in which children and adults can reflect, celebrate, ask questions and grow together, helping everyone within our school community to experience “life in all its fullness.”
